What is this partnership?
We’re proud to announce that IIED Europe is now a member of the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative – a powerful initiative uniting 15 leading partners from six continents, bringing together foundations, philanthropists, corporations, and public institutions with over 250 years of cumulative global impact.
Why This Matters
Global climate action has long suffered from fragmentation, underfunding, and siloed efforts. The Collaborative is designed to transcend this fragmentation by aligning ambition, pooling resources, exchanging learning, and coordinating efforts at scale.
We believe this systemic shift is essential. As climate change deepens, it compounds poverty, inequality, biodiversity loss, and threatens livelihoods, especially in the Global South. Addressing these intertwined challenges depends on holistic strategies – integrating climate resilience with equity, justice, and sustainable development.
Shared Vision and Bold Outcomes
Together with our partners, we share a ten-year horizon of transformative goals that include:
- Avoiding or drawing down 40 gigatons of CO₂-eq emissions by 2040 – about 10% of the global carbon budget aligned with 1.5°C.
- Restoring 35 million hectares of degraded ecosystems – about 10% of currently degraded land worldwide.
- Rapidly enhancing climate resilience for 1 billion people through behavioral change, adaptation, and environmental regeneration.
How We’ll Make It Happen
Our collaboration focuses on enabling systemic transformation through:
- Shifting narratives and mindsets, inspiring sustainable lifestyles that respect nature.
- Building enabling conditions via education, civic trust, and resource access.
- Influencing policy at global, regional, and national levels matched to sustainability goals.
- Innovating financial models and investment tools aligned with social and environmental outcomes.
- Orchestrating systemic impacts by integrating multiple solutions, ensuring adaptability, and scaling impact.
